When provisioning new phone numbers for your team, you may encounter "exhausted" area codes. This guide explains what this means and how to find available numbers in your target regions.

What is an Exhausted Area Code?

Due to high demand, certain geographic area codes have run out of unassigned phone numbers. If an area code is considered "exhausted" by telecom companies, new numbers can no longer be generated for it. Instead, telecom providers issue "overlay" area codes, which serve the exact same geographic region.
