How to enable Google Chrome notifications on Mac

Written by Divan

Ring.io uses Google Chrome to show incoming call and message notifications. On a Mac, Chrome appears twice in the notification settings: Google Chrome and Google Chrome Helper (Alerts). Both need to be set up correctly for Ring.io notifications to show up reliably.

Step 1: Open Notification settings

  1. Click the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen and choose System Settings.

  2. Select Notifications in the sidebar.

Step 2: Configure Google Chrome

  1. In the list of applications, click Google Chrome.

  2. Turn on Allow notifications.

  3. Set the alert style to Alerts. Alerts stay on screen until you dismiss them, so you won't miss an incoming call. Banners disappear automatically after a few seconds.

  4. Set Notification grouping to Off.

Step 3: Configure Google Chrome Helper (Alerts)

  1. Go back to the Notifications list and click Google Chrome Helper (Alerts).

  2. Turn on Allow notifications.

  3. Set the alert style to Alerts.

  4. Set Notification grouping to Off.

Important: Notification grouping must be set to Off for both Google Chrome and Google Chrome Helper (Alerts). When grouping is on, macOS stacks Ring.io notifications together and new calls or messages may not appear on screen.

Tip: If notifications still don't appear, make sure no Focus mode (such as Do Not Disturb) is active, and that Ring.io is allowed to send notifications inside Chrome (click the icon to the left of the address bar on the Ring.io tab and set Notifications to Allow).
