Updating RIng.io in Developer Mode

How to Update Chrome Extensions Using Developer Mode

Written by Divan

Chrome extensions occasionally need a manual update, especially when troubleshooting connection issues or ensuring you have the latest features. This guide walks you through forcing an update for Chrome extensions using Developer Mode, using Ring.io as an example.

Open the Chrome Extensions Panel

Click the puzzle piece icon in the top-right corner of your Chrome browser toolbar. This opens the Extensions dropdown showing all your installed extensions. At the bottom of the dropdown, click "Manage extensions" to navigate to the full Chrome extensions page.

Tip: You can also navigate directly by typing chrome://extensions in your address bar.

Enable Developer Mode

On the Chrome extensions page, locate the "Developer mode" toggle in the top-right corner of the screen. Click the toggle to switch it on. When enabled, the toggle will appear blue, and additional options will become visible at the top of the page.

Click the Update Button

With Developer Mode enabled, you will now see three new buttons at the top of the extensions page: "Load unpacked", "Pack extension", and "Update". Click the "Update" button to force Chrome to check for and install the latest version of all your installed extensions.

Reopen Ring.io

After the update is complete the extension should now be running the latest version.
